When do we use I study and I am studying?
Learn to tell a regular habit from something happening right now.

The key idea
Present Simple is used for habits and general situations: I study every evening. Present Continuous fits something happening now or something temporary: I am studying for an exam this week.
- Simple: I work / she works
- Continuous: I am working / she is working
Don't look at time words mechanically. This week does not always require the same tense; look at whether the speaker is stressing a habit or a temporary situation.
See an example
I usually take the bus, but today I am walking to class.
Usually shows a regular habit. Today's choice is different.
Wrong: She studying now.
Correction: She is studying now.
In the Continuous structure, the am/is/are part cannot be left out.

Answer and explanation
- studies — the third person singular form for my friend; study → studies.
- am listening — an action happening right now.
Example: I usually study alone, but today I am working with a friend. Combining two tenses in one sentence shows the difference between them.
I went or I have been?
